Description
Woodhouses Bastle near Holystone in Northumberland - photo art view of the golden autumn colours found in the Northumbrian countryside. A bastle is a fortified dwelling, common in Northumberland and was used to protect the owners during raids by the Scots and Border Reivers. The lower floor was used to house livestock while the owners would take refuge in the upper floor.
